Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions about spine and brain surgery with Dr. Salman Falak are answered here in plain words. These answers cover booking, OPD days, what to bring, recovery and travel from other cities. Their aim is to settle the practical worries before a consultation, so the appointment itself can focus on the medical decision.
Booking and OPD days
How do I get an appointment?
WhatsApp 0331 5555335 with your name, city and a short note of the problem. You will be given the next OPD day at the venue nearest to you, or a video consultation slot if you live far from Lahore.
Which days is Dr. Salman Falak in Lahore, Gujranwala and Phool Nagar?
Lahore Monday to Saturday across three hospitals, Gujranwala Medical Complex on Friday evenings, and Phool Nagar on Tuesdays. Confirm the exact time for the day you plan to come, because sessions differ by venue.
What should I bring to the OPD?
All scans with their reports, MRI or CT films or the CD, any X-rays, previous prescriptions and discharge papers, and a list of the medicines you take. If you sent these on WhatsApp beforehand, bring the originals anyway.
What does a consultation cost?
Fees vary by hospital and are confirmed on WhatsApp when you book. Surgery costs depend on the procedure, the implants if any, and the length of stay, and are explained clearly at the consultation before anything is scheduled.
Spine surgery
Is slip disc surgery risky?
Every operation carries some risk, but a disc operation through a small incision under a microscope or endoscope is a routine procedure in neurosurgery, with the nerve protected under magnification throughout. Dr. Salman Falak explains the specific risks for your level and your health, and how they are kept low.
How risky is surgery at L4 L5?
L4 L5 is the most common level for a slipped disc and one of the most operated levels in the spine. The risk is not higher because of the level itself; it depends on the size and position of the fragment, your general health and the technique used. The risk of nerve injury is small when the nerve is visualised under magnification.
What is life like after screw fixation?
Once the bone has healed, most patients return to ordinary life, work and travel. The fixed segment no longer bends, which the rest of the spine compensates for, and heavy lifting and contact sport are discussed case by case. The implants usually stay in permanently and do not set off alarms at airports in most cases.
How should I sleep after spine surgery?
On your back with a pillow under the knees, or on your side with a pillow between the knees, and roll as one piece when getting up rather than twisting. Specific advice is given for your operation before discharge.
Brain surgery
Is a brain tumour 100 percent curable?
Some brain tumours are removed completely and do not return; others are controlled rather than cured, with surgery, radiotherapy or medicine over time. Nobody can honestly promise 100 percent before the tumour has been removed and examined. What can be promised is a clear explanation of the aim of surgery for your scan.
Is pituitary surgery high risk?
The endoscopic approach through the nose avoids opening the skull, and serious complications are uncommon, but the gland sits near the optic nerves and the carotid arteries, so the operation is done with care and planning. Hormone levels are checked before and after. Risks are discussed in detail at the consultation.
What is the most advanced treatment for trigeminal neuralgia?
There is no single best treatment. Medicine comes first; when it fails, options include microvascular decompression, which addresses the vessel pressing on the nerve, and percutaneous procedures that treat the nerve itself. The right choice depends on the MRI, age, general health and how the pain behaves.
Recovery and travelling from other cities
How long do I need to stay in Lahore?
A day-case or overnight procedure such as a disc operation may need two or three days in the city including the review; screw fixation or brain surgery needs longer. You are given the expected stay at the consultation so the family can plan.
Can follow-up be done without travelling?
Yes. Most follow-up visits after the first wound check can be done by video consultation, with photographs of the wound and any new scans sent on WhatsApp.
Can the decision to operate be made on a video call?
Often a clear opinion can be given from the scan and the history on video, including whether surgery is likely. A physical examination is still needed before any operation is booked, which is why the video call is followed by one planned OPD visit.
Send your MRI. Get a clear answer before you travel.
WhatsApp your reports and your city, and you will be told whether surgery is likely, which tests to bring, and which OPD is nearest to you.
